樫村研究室では、「21世紀の森と広場」で gate keeper's houseを展示しています。



この展示は、8月にアフリカのウガンダで制作した類似の構造物を日本の敷地に合わせて発展させたものです。
gate keeper's houseとは、フェンスや壁などで囲まれたエリアの出入り口近くにあって、その境界やエリアを守る場所です。アフリカの都市部では様々な脅威から境界が強固に守られていることが多い一方、緩やかに守られているものもあり、境界とhouseの役割もそれに応じて変化しています。

VとAによって構成される材は立面的にも平面的にも表裏を作らない形状となり、特定の方位を向く座面を持ちながらも、四方を見渡すことを可能とします。現場でデザインされた「ladderハシゴ」「armrest肘掛け」「backrest背もたれ」が各々の敷地や守るべき境界に適応し、その場を守る人の姿勢をサポートします。

今回は、修士1年生が、公園内にある材料を使って製作しました。
公園の管理者や訪問者と関わり、新たに制作された構造物によって境界の範囲がどのように再形成されるかを観察しながら、構造物やその周りの環境との関係を探求しています。

We are pleased to announce that this year the “Gate keeper’s house” is exhibited as part of “Matsudo Art
Picnic” art festival held at the rich natural environment of the 21st Century Forest and Square park located
in the center of Matsudo.

A gate keeper's house is a place for a person to guard an area and is located at the entrance or exit of a
boundary enclosed by a fence, wall or other enclosure that implies it. They are usually called 'guardhouses'
or 'security huts' and vary in size and strength/weakness from place to place.

The goal of this exhibit is to give first year Master students a chance to build their gate keeper house using
material from the site after choosing a location they would like to “gate keep”. They will then observe the
created context/ boundary further exploring the “gate keeping “ aspect of their project.
